    When the film first came out, I wanted Madonna to nail the part so bad. I was a huge fan of the musical and I always felt bad for Madonna's many acting attempts and failing miserably. This time, I told myself, she will be brilliant because it's a musical and more up her alley as opposed to dialogue. I won tickets to the world premiere at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. I spotted Madonna, Antonio Banderas, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and others from the film cast up in the balcony. It was so exciting! At the end of the film, the entire auditorium gave Madonna a standing ovation. I'm sure everyone meant it and felt she deserved it fully. I know I did and the film itself was so brilliantly done. I went on to see it at theatres again 2 more times. Then life happened and I lost touch with musical theatre in general for several years. Around 2004, I found a copy of the film that my sister had in som,e boxes that she brought over to store at our house. I decided to give the film a long overdue revisit as it had been years since I last saw it. I will never forget my reaction. As the credits rolled, I just stared blankly at the screen. Madonna was HORRIBLE!! I could not understand why I loved her the first 15 or so times I saw the film years ago. I wondered what had changed. The difference in opinion was dramatic. Madonna could simply NOT act. She had dead eyes and put in all her effort on crying at the end. The effort she placed throughout the film was non-existent. She played herself. She was brilliant in only ONE song and that was "Waltz For Eva and Che." She was on fire during that number. She acted and danced beautifully. She was passionate, expressive, and a true triple threat. I don't know what happened to her in the rest of the film but she was not good. Really unfortunate. Even today, I really wish she had done better. The woman just can't act...unless she has a magical spell come over her as it does for that one number in the film. If only she had performed like that the whole film, except for one song. That would be so much better.

      you're entitled to your opinion but I strongly disagree. I've heard the 'dead in the eyes' comment elsewhere, but remember she is wearing dark contacts to look more like Eva, and I think that does mean that at times her expression is dimmed slightly. I understand the choice visually, but I do think it may be causing what you call her 'dead in the eyes' feeling. You're not actually seeing her real eyes.

    Alan Parker was an amazing director and how he brought the musical to life on stage should he won him the Oscar. Its the best thing Madonna has ever fine. Its a shame they lowered the keys of the musical score, as it does lose something. But! Out of all of lloyd webbers musical, and of course the brilliant idea by Tim Rice. In my humble opinion. This is the best of the stage to screen adaptions of a lloyd webber musical xx

    Madonna has an amazing life. I never get tired of watching her early life. Her life is so interesting. It's like a fairy tale. It's amazing that someone who came from nothing and achieved so much in a short time. Everything just fell into place for her. It's like a puzzle. Her life journey is so interesting. It's like a guardian angel is guiding her along each step of the way. It was must be her mother's voice whispering in her ear and telling her which direction to go.

      This is why I truly believe that her upcoming life story movie shouldn't try to fit her whole life and career in it. That I believe will be a big mistake. You could develop and film a 10 part Netflix series and still not manage to include everything she has done and achieved. I would much rather that her movie focused on the early days in New York, I mean my god beside everything she was doing as a drummer/guitarist/vocalist in bands and a solo artist. She was hanging out with Keith Haring, Badqiat and Warhol!

    It's interesting to see this version of Madonna. I have been a fan since the beginning. I own all her music and have seen her many times in concert. She has a different persona with each album or with whatever big even has happened. Here she is playing the happy housewife and children's author. Now in her 60's she is writing a book about her life. This seems like the messiest period she's ever been in. I don't recognize her anymore. It's a shame she didn't continue to grow but regressed some place. Yes, I am still a fan and said what I said.

      Back in this era when she was a proper British wife, I didn't recognize her either. I thought she was so different from the Madonna we knew 10 years earlier. I remember trying to imagine what she would be like in 20 years... I was sort of sad at the idea of her becoming a senior.. Now, here we are in 2022 and she presents herself in a way I could have never imagined. She may look somewhat unnatural, but she seems to be having more fun than ever. It's her rebellious nature... she refuses to age, for now. Who knows what the Madonna of 2042 will be?

    • @joshuaromero9980
      @joshuaromero9980 Год назад

      I respectfully disagree with your comment . She was married in this era, and has expressed she felt stifled. I believe it came across in how she carried herself here (as if she had a huge stick up her bum. ) What is regression and what is progression anyways? Is it progress to be a domesticated wife ?? She doesn’t behave that way now because she is single and dates men that bring her joy. Kudos to her for not conforming to societal standards of age and the expectation of appropriate female behavior. She’s not breaking any laws!

      @@joshuaromero9980 She was this way after she got divorced too. It's only been the last few years. As a fan, Madonna represented screw the system. Screw ageism. Then she fights like hell with surgery, filters, clothes and boyfriends to look young. Now is that Madonna? She trapped herself in her own ageism while saying she's fighting it. I just find it sad and disappointing.

    Lets be honest. Why didn´t she sing the part in the original key?? Other singers/actresses had to work really hard to pass auditions hitting all the high notes and proving they could sustain a demanding vocal performance every night. It´s an insult to all the "stage Evitas" who have worked their ass off every night when playing the part. Madonna could not simply sing this live on stage because of her vocal limitations, look what happened to Patti and other Evitas who had vocal problems during their run. Andrew Lloyd Webber knows that there were many better singers to sing the part but "box office" rules. (Same happened with Sunset and Patti. Box office and investors, producers rule). Madonna is brilliant when perfoming her concerts but please leave decents musicals alone.

    • @AlexeBriand2002
      @AlexeBriand2002 2 года назад

      because, for one, she didn’t have the range to sing everything in the original key. second of all, no one in a movie theater would’ve wanted to listen to a screaming whale during A New Argentina

    • @jasl3715
      @jasl3715 2 года назад

      @@AlexeBriand2002 I appreciate that you are a Madonna fan and I respect that but ... First of all movie theatre are not for Musicals, Musicals are for stage, secondly, in a new Argentina (like in Rainbow High) singers do not scream but belt ! and third, the real Eva Perón screamed a lot because she was a passionate woman especially during her speeches to the crowds. I do like Madonna and she is a great performer, and icon, and has many good songs, but she is not a musical actress. I think that in Evita she gave it all when acting the part and she had brilliant moments but unfortunately she could not sing the part as it was written. If she was so brilliant why didn´t she play it on Broadway?? She simply could not have done it.

    • @alex9391
